Need a V-Day Date?

Are you dating men that just aren’t making the cut? Do you know that special guy already, but having a hard time getting him to notice you? Or you just don’t want to be lonely this Valentine’s Day?

girl in love with boyfriends

Well, it’s not too late to find that special someone before Valentine’s Day! We’ve cooked up several ways on how to make a man fall in love with you. Secure a date by February 14th with these simple tips:

IMPROVE YOUR HYGIENE

Take care of yourself. Buy a Luma Comfort air purifier or a humidifier for your health. You’ll be breathing in fresh air, while moisturizing your skin. Try wearing some cute outfits from your wardrobe. You don’t have to break the bank shopping, but you can always work with what you have by mixing and matching. Spray on some perfume too! Also You don’t have to wear heavy make-up, but nicely groom yourself. Brush your hair, floss your teeth, take daily showers, and wear clean clothes.

BE CHARMING

It’s all about being confident and independent. Men are extremely attracted to it. Men are socially awkward when it comes to being around other people, so try charming the people you meet. When he sees that other people naturally like you, he will too. Make everyone feel their best and like they are a better person. Always be happy, charismatic, and smile.

BE MYSTERIOUS

Let him chase you! When he asks about your life, give him short details that will make him ask for more. Remember to always be yourself though. Especially if you both have different hobbies, that makes you more interesting and intriguing. It’s always good to end the conversation on a high note so he can look forward to talking to you again. Turn down plans or stop texting back right away, and he’ll start to wonder what you’re doing.

SHOW YOUR BRAIN

It’s easy to say something stupid or start gossiping, especially as a girl. It’s best not to have a conversation about how you hate your neighbor or ex-boyfriend. Don’t be too sensitive or emotional either. Begin the conversation with the news or current events. Show that you’re just not all about looks and appearance. You don’t have to get serious about a topic, but let him know that you have a brain.

LAUGH A LITTLE

I admit to being a little tongue-tied when I went on my first date with my boyfriend. I was really nervous and over-thinking everything to the point I did not know what to say. He charmingly cracked a joke, and it made me laugh hysterically. Laughing can give you an idea of what the other person’s personality is like. Show him you like it when he makes you laugh because it will make him feel good about himself. It’s also a bonus if you crack a joke or take one!

LISTEN

Men have such big egos that they love to talk about only themselves. Sometimes we don’t even care what they’re saying, but it’s better to pretend like you do. Listen to what he has to say and never interrupt. Throw in some questions about previous comments he made or ask his opinions on current events.

POSITIVE SUPPORT

Nobody likes a constant negative person to be around them. They complain about everything and hate all that they see. Be positive and optimistic. Always see the best in people, and you will instantly become more likeable. Make a bad situation into a good one or just opt to have a good time no matter where you two are. Supporting his endeavors will also let him know that you will always be there for me. Try doing a nice gesture. For example, if he is stressed about work, write him a note or bring him lunch.

BE PALS WITH HIS PALS

Most couples think the acceptance of their relationship has to come from their parents, but in reality it’s actually come from their friends. Try having a conversation about what they like to do, or buy them drinks at the bar when you’re out. Just make sure it is a good beer, and not a girly one like Blue Moon.

GET A KEGERATOR

Men love beer…and so do women! Chugging down a nice cold beer from my own tap is heaven. It’s a guarantee that he’ll come over a lot more once he finds out you have your own kegerator.

COOK DINNER

Cooking is obviously a way to anyone’s heart. Fill your kitchen with some of his favorite food. It will make him feel more at home when he is over at your place. America is ranked 2nd in the world for obesity, so I know you want to eat. Get down and dirty by whipping up a burger. This will show you’re not afraid to eat junk in front of him, but keep it classy.

MAKE HIM FEEL LIKE A MAN

Make him feel dominant by asking him to fix or build something at your place. He will feel like he is taking care of you or protecting you from harm when you show him your vulnerable side. He’ll then open up and confide in you with his problems.

BE ADVENTUROUS

Hiking couple

Testosterone! Need I say more? Men love doing outdoor activities, going to the gym, playing video games, and more. They love it when a girl can take an interest in what they like to do or can try something new with them. Be willing to go anywhere or do anything and it will make you come off just as adventurous as they are.

KEEP THE SPACE

Don’t become obsessively clingy with him. Respect his space and privacy as well as your own. Show that you can rely on each other, but get the freedom you both need. If he feels tied down, that will send him running. There’s no need to sacrifice friends or hobbies just because you want to start a relationship.

Remember you can’t make anyone love you, but if the chemistry is there it can work. If it’s meant to be, it will happen.

The Do’s & Don’ts of Humidifiers

Looking for a tip or two on how to operate humidifiers? You’ve probably noticed the thousands of results when searching through Google. It seems like everyone is an expert when it comes to humidifiers, or are they? Here is some advice coming from a bona fide expert at Luma Comfort!

DO be lazy

Using distilled water in a humidifier reduces the amount of time to clean it. Great for lazy people like myself who hate moving their bodies!

DON’T get chlamydia and die

Do you know what happens when a bunch of people are sick in the same house? NOTHING. No one cleans, no one eats the leftover pizza in the fridge, and everything else is left to rot. This is what happens when you don’t own a humidifier and your body is slow to recover.

DO disburse drugs

I’m not talking about your illegal substances. I’m talking Tylenol, Nyquil, and Robitussin, that can aid the humidifier in getting you back to your healthy self.

DON’T trust people who don’t wear shoes

Because most likely they have dry, rough skin and static buildup. All can be prevented from the moist air of a humidifier, but I also recommend using body lotion, chapstick, and putting on leather shoes.

DO save those pretty pennies

Humidifiers can be quite expensive. Start saving that loose change found trying to escape the washing machine. You’ll be rich in no time.

DON’T let those white dust fairies run wild!

That was the whole purpose of buying a humidifier – to get rid of germs! They’re everywhere, they’re annoying, and they can cause lung damage in children. Yikes!

DO take pride in work you’re not doing

Humidifiers do all the work for you, while you take all the credit. Maintain your health, stay warm, and enjoy the moisture a humidifier brings to your home.

DON’T wake up a sour puss

Leave the humidifier running all all night. It’s totally safe, but make sure you have plenty of water so it doesn’t stop working.

DO be affectionate

Take care of your humidifier and it will take care of you.

DON’T take it with you on a hike

I know it’s great, durable, and the design makes you look stylish, but are you serious? How big do your muscles really need to be?

DO smile

Quit letting yourself suffer more than you already are. Whether you have a cold, allergy, or asthma, the humidifier works to ease those symptoms.

DON’T become an alcoholic

You can have tons of sober fun with a humidifier. They’re great company. But if you decide to, which I’m not condoning because then I would be an accessory to crime, I really recommend sipping on some JD Honey.

DO buy a humidifier from Luma Comfort

They last long, produce outstanding results, and carry more features than most brands. Kapeesh? Kapeesh!

DON’T buy a humidifier of lesser quality

For example, a humidifier from Winix. False hope. How do I know? Because I bought one and returned it within a week.

Just How Small is a Micron Anyway?

Looking in a microscope

We’ve been talking a lot about our new air purifiers this month. You’ve probably seen in the description that they both feature a HEPA filter that is “designed remove over 99% of tiny particles down to 0.3 microns.” This got us thinking – just how small is 0.3 microns?

A micron, more formally known as a micrometer, is a unit a measure that refers to 1×10-6 of a meter, or one-millionth of a meter. In inches, one micron is equal to 0.000039 inches. To put it another way, there are 25,400 microns in one inch. So, based on the conversion rate, 0.3 microns would equal 0.0000117 inches.

Let’s put that in perspective. Here are a few common items with their
measurements listed in microns:

  • 1-inch stamp: 25,400 microns
  • Eye of a needle: 1,230 microns
  • Particle of sand from the beach: between 100-2,000 microns
  • Pollen: anywhere from 10-1,000 microns

We can’t even fathom just how small 0.3 microns is, so to make it easy we’re just say incredibly small.

The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time to give and receive Christmas gifts!  Personally, we hate dealing with crowds at the mall and suffering through parking lot traffic jams, so every year we try to do all of our holiday shopping online.

Since we’re big fans of home décor items, home gadgets and home appliances, we thought it would be fun to put together a list of some of our favorite home gifts.  We chose products that were more affordable (less $150), but rest assured that all of these are items we’d be thrilled to both give and receive.  Happy shopping!

Top 5 Nursery Essentials

Top 5 Baby Essentials

I recently welcomed the arrival of my first child over the summer and was a bit overwhelmed, to say the least. Although I had a baby registry and shopped for baby things during pregnancy, no one really told me that dry-clean only pink sweaters and floral headbands should not have been at the top of my list.

I didn’t know I needed certain items until my little one arrived, so I thought I’d share some wisdom for other new moms-to-be. These may not work for everyone, but these are my list of top 5 nursery essentials I just can’t live without.

5. Maya Wrap
I’ve tried quite a few baby carriers, including the Moby Wrap, Ergo and Baby Bjorn, but the Maya Wrap is my personal favorite. It takes some time to get used to baby wearing, but I found that the ring ones such as the Maya Wrap felt more comfortable for both me and baby. The ring also lets you easily adjust the carrier as your baby grows. We use this daily.

4. Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer
Some moms may argue that bottle warmers aren’t a necessity, but I beg to differ. What I don’t like about other bottle warmers on the market is that there’s still the risk of burning and hotspots since the water temperature gets too high. The Kozii is the only one that uses a warm water bath that’s as warm as tap water. This lets you warm up your baby’s meal without exposing bags or bottles to hot steam or boiling water.

3. Luma Comfort Humidifier
Babies are notoriously susceptible to upper respiratory illnesses, and while I don’t want to see my little one with the sniffles, a cool mist humidifier like the Luma Comfort HC12W will make her feel better even if she does happen to get sick this winter. Not only is it wonderful for soothing a cold, it also provides a bit of white noise for her. The chic, vase-inspired design also looks great in her super girly nursery.

2. Mustela Facial Cleansing Cloths
Doctors recommend bathing infants only a few times a week, so in between baths, I like to use these wipes from Mustela to clean my baby’s face, neck and hands. These are alcohol-free and specially designed to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Mustela products also smell lovely!

1. Fisher-Price Cradle Swing
If I had to pick one product I couldn’t live without, it would definitely be this swing. My baby isn’t particularly fussy, but when she gets in one of her moods, this is the only thing that will calm her down. Part of Fisher-Price’s Sugar Plum Collection, this swing swings in a side-to-side or front-to-back motion and plays 8 different lullabies. Not only is it great for a crying baby, but it’s also nice when you need to put your child down for a few minutes to clean up around the house or whenever you just need a “me” moment.

Planning the Perfect Memorial Day Party

Memorial Day Party Ideas

Memorial Day is coming up, which means summer is just around the corner.  We can’t think of a better excuse to throw an outdoor party, so follow these tips and let the fun begin!

Setting the Theme

We’re traditionalists and like to show off our patriotic side whenever we can.  But instead of having stars and stripes everywhere, we suggest decorating your outdoor space with red, navy blue and white pieces, with just a few key items adorned with the flag.  These key items can be elements such as your centerpiece, your cupcake toppers or even printed menu cards.  Not having too much flag stuff keeps your party fresh and modern.

Food and Drinks

Burgers and hot dogs are pretty much expected at any BBQ, but you can mix things up a bit by serving gourmet versions of these 2 grilling mainstays.  For example, instead of regular burgers and hot dogs, why not serve Kobe sliders and turkey dogs on French rolls?  You can also set up a fixings bar with a variety of tasty toppings for your guests.  An array of marinated veggies, hummus, bacon and different types of shredded cheeses all make wonderful burger/hot dog accompaniments.  Don’t forget your classic condiments like ketchup and mustard for those who want to keep it simple, though.

For beverages, grab a stainless steel beverage cooler and keep it stocked with 2 or 3 varieties of your favorite bottled microbrews.  While we’re a fan of cocktails, instead of playing bartender and mixing different drinks all night, why not make a few pitchers of just one killer drink.  Mix together some strawberry schnapps, vodka and club soda together.  Grab some lowball glasses, dip the rims in some blue colored sugar, fill with ice and pour this yummy concoction over it for a spectacular summer thirst quencher.

Last but not least, you’ll need a dessert.  You can make regular store bought ice cream sandwiches festive by dipping the edges in red and blue sprinkles and serving them on a pretty platter.

Keep Your Guests Comfy

Depending on where you live, it may already feel like the middle of summer during your party, so it’s important to think of your guests’ comfort.  Purchase some mini red, white and blue folding fans at your local party supply store and put one by each place setting.  Last but not least, you can also have a misting fan set up in your backyard for even more cooling!

Five Ways to Celebrate Leap Day

Today is Leap Day, February 29, which means we are in the midst of enjoying an extra day in the calendar. Think of it as a bonus! Today is one more day to do something substantial, productive or maybe just plain fun. Here are five ways to enjoy Leap Day:

  1. Leap Day - February 29Try something new. It can be a type of food or restaurant, or perhaps a hobby or type of entertainment. Today is a great day to expose yourself to something new and different.
  2. Take a risk. Is there something that you’ve thought about doing for a while, but just haven’t had the guts? It can be as simple as talking to someone new, or as big as skydiving. What better day to take that “leap?”
  3. Start a new tradition. Leap year only comes around every four years, so why not make it special. Start a new tradition with your friends and family that will give you a special reason to look forward to every February 29.
  4. Throw a party. While some of us don’t need an excuse for holding a social gathering,  today is a special occasion worthy of celebrating. Gather some friends and enjoy it! Plus, you don’t have to worry about throwing it again for another four years.
  5. Make a difference. Since this is a bonus day, why not share some of it with those less fortunate? There are plenty of charities and community organizations available that are always looking for some extra help. We all get an extra 24 hours this year, and it only takes one to make a difference.

Happy Paczki Day!

Today is Fat Tuesday, aka Mardi Gras, and we’re doing what we can to celebrate! one of our favorite Mardi Gras traditions comes from Poland – the paczki.

Paczki are essentially jelly or cream-filled doughnuts, made with extremely rich dough and topped with powdered sugar, icing, or even dried orange zest. These Polish pastries have ingrained themselves into American traditions in areas of the country with large Polish communities, such as Chicago. In Poland, Paczki Day is traditionally celebrated on Fat Thursday, or the last Thursday before the season of Lent in the Catholic calendar. The idea is to use up all the eggs, sugar, lard and fruit in the house prior to Lent, when  traditional Catholic fasting practices would forbid them.

In the US, Paczki Day is celebrated on Fat Tuesday, grouping the day in with other fun and celebration. So grab yourself a jelly-filled sweet, and Happy Paczki Day and Mardi Gras!

Our Favorite Super Bowl Ads

Whether you’re a football fan or not, there’s something transcendent about the Super Bowl. A single game brings most of the US, as well as much of the world, together in unison. Last night’s big game was most likely one of the highest rated in recent memory, which meant a huge stage for advertisers. Traditionally, companies spend a fortune on Super Bowl ad space and use the time to showcase their very best work. The best commercials typically have a good mixture of comedy, cunning and wit to go along with a general feel-good emotion. And this year was no exception.

Our clear favorites this year came from Pepsi and Budweiser, two corporations that are known for taking full advantage of the Super Bowl ad stage. Pepsi’s add is heavy on humor, and Sir Elton John plays his role perfectly. We’re also a big fan of the cameo at the end.

Our absolute favorite from last night, though, comes from Budweiser, which focused on combining the purity of rec-league sports with the unbridled joy of playing in front of a crowd of admirers. This ad only aired in Canada, however thanks to the wonder of YouTube, we’re all able to enjoy it. Anyone who has ever played a game in an empty arena will appreciate this one. The best part about this ad is the simple joy on the face of the two teams as they enjoy playing in front of the loud flash mob of a crowd. Is there a clear message? Not really, but there doesn’t need to be. For this ad, the connection is all about emotion, and it’s just about perfect.
